Cursor Interview Questions
Cursor's interview shows up here as 13 questions, every one of them asked in a technical screen, so no separate onsite appears in what candidates reported and the screen carries the whole technical bar. Six came from Software Engineer loops and two from Backend Engineer. The prompts read like the product's own internals. One asks for a Merkle tree over repository contents and then a diff between two trees, which is the content-addressed hashing problem behind knowing which files changed without rereading them. Another asks for a streaming Markdown parser that keeps code-fence state across chunk boundaries, the exact problem of rendering a model's output while it is still arriving. A third wants an in-memory transactional key-value store with begin, commit and rollback, nested. Rate limiting comes up twice, once as an implementation exercise and once as a distributed design question, so the same idea gets examined at two altitudes. Two of the eight are rated hard against six medium. Six have a worked solution written out, two run in the browser console, and the whole page reads without premium.
