The interviewer was impossible to find anywhere online, I couldn't find a thing about him and I'm speechless.
BQ: 1. How do you evaluate customer experience? 2. A major unexpected obstacle.
For the first one, I think the point of the question was the evaluation part, and my story was just directly collecting feedback, which he wasn't happy with 😭
For the second one, he felt the obstacle wasn't major enough and made me pick a few more significant stories and retell them 😭
Coding was the classic LCA problem, employees and their manager. But the whole time the interviewer's tone felt a bit impatient, and like he was working against me. For example, for edge cases I said, what if the input is wrong and two employees have the same name, and he said, who would ever do that? It felt like he was fighting my line of thinking the whole way 😭
Of course, it's the classic LCA, I've written it ten thousand times, the problem isn't hard and I got it written out smoothly.
I got stuck on the follow-up: what if the input is a list containing many employees? I said split them into two groups, then two again, and he said no. I was stuck 😭
Then he gave me a hint and I explained my approach following his hint. Afterwards I asked Claude, and the answer should be to build a dictionary, put every manager that shows up along with the number of times they show up in it, and return the manager whose count equals the total number of employees.
I wanted to work out my thinking while writing the code. But for the last 3 minutes he wouldn't let me write anymore, and just went through the routine "do you have any questions for me?" Then he said HR will get in touch in 2 days. Monday, HR will contact you on Monday. And then he hung up the video, with 3 minutes still left 😭 The whole thing felt impatient and like he was working against me.
I really miss an interview I had at Google before, where the interviewer extended 15 minutes so I could finish writing my code, and chatted with me about a lot of stuff from back home. I miss that a lot. Too bad I didn't pass the other Google rounds 😭
