This company's interview process is seriously long and miserable.
The HR keeps calling you without any heads-up, which feels like harassment.
After the interviews they disappear for no reason, even though every round went well. My guess is that they do a back-channel background check behind your back. One of the interviewers is close with a PE in my org, so they probably went and asked him. Our PE didn't know I was interviewing, and I've only been on this team for a bit over a year, so he probably didn't give good feedback, and they just rejected me outright.
For the phone screens I first had one coding round and one SD + BQ round (the HM did that one).
Then the virtual onsite:
Project Deep Dive + BQ. I made a slide deck to present my past projects. The interviewer kept interrupting me and awkwardly shoving in BQ questions, like he was just checking a box.
SD. Design a read-once password sharing system. Then design an online service that can run SQL statements, with Iceberg as the underlying storage.
Tech VP. Talking to him, you could clearly tell it's an amateur-hour operation. His level is very mediocre, he has no clear sense of the company's technical strengths and weaknesses, and no clear direction for where things go from here. It feels like the company is turning into an outsourcing shop. This guy purely coasted up on years served, he's been at the company 8-9 years.
Product Director. I don't even know why I was talking to this person, but the conversation went well and he seemed very satisfied. We just talked about the products I've worked on, how I interact with customers, and a few BQ questions.
I think the biggest thing to complain about with this company is that every interviewer holds a BQ question list and awkwardly reads questions off it. I understand you want to collect signal, but there's no need to keep interrupting someone before they finish speaking and then ask a bunch of completely unrelated things...
