Aurora Senior Machine Learning Engineer Interview Experience — Grilled on Using LLMs to Drive Self-Driving Cars

I interviewed with Aurora for an MLE role. Overall the questions were pretty middle-of-the-road and not really that hard. Maybe I just wasn't prepared enough and didn't manage to wow them.

The senior package can only go up to about 500k at most, which maybe isn't all that attractive either. The question that came up the most in the interviews was how to use LLMs in autonomous driving, how to use an LLM to drive a driverless car, that kind of thing. I think it's a really pointless question. Everyone knows LLMs hallucinate all the time. Putting one into a self-driving scenario to do real-time driving? Do they think they haven't been dragged into enough lawsuits already? But the interviewer on the other side seemed to just want to see whether the candidate could come up with an answer that satisfied them. One really pointed question was: if we want to fight for more scope right now, how would you present this idea to upper management? That kind of question. All I can say is: this humble servant simply cannot do it.
