Cisco Software Engineer Interview Experience — QA Questions from an Acquired Team

Cisco·Software Engineer·Sep 2026
Onsiteeasy

This was a team from a company Cisco acquired. The questions were mostly about my experience and open questions, and these interviews really come down to luck, so these are just the ones I remember. Everyone was pretty nice and happy to share their own experiences.

If you can successfully ping a server, does that mean port 443 is accessible?
How do you test a new feature?
How do you drive improvements in the QA workflow?
What kind of work arrangement are you looking for?

I also interviewed with some other teams that lean more toward L2/L3 work.

  1. Write a to-do task management class in Python, with CRUD and task status (new, pending, resolved)
  2. Python and pytest fundamentals (fixture, decorator, generator)
  3. Two classes have the same keyword, and a third class takes both of those classes as input. When you use the keyword, which class's keyword gets called?
  4. Explain BGP
  5. Also some open questions (how to plan test cases, how to handle flaky cases)
