I applied online, and about a week later a recruiter reached out and set up a 30-minute meeting. It was pretty standard stuff — they just introduced the role.
A bit more than a week after that, they reached out again: the next step was the HM interview.
The HM's camera and mic both seemed to be having issues. The video was really blurry and the audio kept cutting in and out. He started by introducing his team and what they work on, then had me give a self-introduction and talk about a project. Right after I finished the brief intro, the HM asked if I was using AI. I was pretty surprised — I definitely wasn't — and just said no. I thought about offering to share my screen to prove it, but the HM didn't seem to care that much and just moved on. Three days later I got a rejection.
I have no idea what made the HM think I was using AI. Was it because I've given my self-introduction and project pitch so many times that it came out sounding memorized, and that's what set off the suspicion? If anyone has good advice, please share.
