Officially kicked off my first technical phone screen of this job-hunting season. It's with an AI video creation company based in New York — funny enough, it shares a name with a legendary NYC clubbing spot from back in the day lol.
Clearly I hadn't grinded enough problems, because the SQL question left me scratching my head the whole time. Definitely failed — I could see the interviewer's face practically turning green.
The question hit exactly my long-standing weak spot: a recommendation-style problem, the classic Spotify one. Find friend recommendation pairs where the overlap of songs they each listened to more than three times on the same day exceeds some threshold.
I think this kind of join / anti-join problem really needs more practice. I wrote such a mess.
After that there was no time left for the case study, so I just answered it however I could.
The question was: if you wanted to raise the price on a video editing software, how would you analyze it, how would you approach it, how would you run the experiments?
Because I was so short on time, the case study part only ran for like ten minutes, and I'm pretty sure the interviewer had already mentally failed me by then.
Gotta keep grinding. Long road ahead.
