I started with an internal recruiter reaching out about a very senior trade support type of role. My first call was with HR, and it felt like it went well. I then spoke with the hiring manager about my background, the team, and what the role involved. The conversation felt a little unfocused on their side, but it was still decent overall.
The role I initially interviewed for didn't work out because they wanted someone even more senior, probably from a comparable trading environment. Months later, I saw that the same organization still had an opening, so I reached out again and there was mutual interest. I then went through three interviews back-to-back before the holidays and felt good about the people I met. The recruiter also told me that hiring from my location would be fine and that the response might be delayed.
The difficult part was the silence. By mid-January, I followed up and finally received a rejection. The team liked me, but they couldn't hire from where I was located. After months of interviews, and after being told my location was acceptable, that reversal made me feel as though my time hadn't been respected. I didn't receive an offer, and the biggest issue was how much the process depended on a late constraint that had never been clear upfront.
