Google Software Engineer Interview Experience — Back-to-Back Phone Screens: Behavioral, Then an HTTP Router

After I finished the psychological test, they scheduled my phone interviews right away. It was two rounds back to back, 45 minutes each, and I don't know if that's normal.

The first round was a behavioral round with a really nice interviewer. All the questions were the usual ones: what do you do if you disagree with a coworker, what do you do if you disagree with another team, what do you do if a junior you're mentoring won't listen to you, that kind of thing.

The second round interviewer was also really nice. The question was an HTTP router. You need to implement two functions, register handler and get handler, and some handlers take parameters while others don't. Basically you use a prefix tree and store the handler and the parameter pair in each node. The interviewer was super easygoing and said I didn't even need to write the string splitting part, I could just pretend it already existed. When registering, you walk down the tree; when looking up, you use a DFS.

People on this forum say Google loves DP, and I spent a long time grinding DP, but I didn't get asked it. I'm pretty happy about that.

I just got laid off, by the way.
