IBM Intern Data Scientist Interview Experience — Marketing Lead-Scoring Case, Offer in Two Weeks

After I submitted my application, I automatically got sent an OA — one Python question and one SQL question, not too hard.

First round (mainly asked about my resume, a deep dive into the ML project on my resume, and a case):

• What's your experience building a statistical model and a machine learning model?
• What kinds of variables/features did you use? Did the client only care about the results, or did they also want to know which features were important? (This one was based on the ML project I'd talked about.)
• Multicollinearity
• Case: since I was interviewing with the marketing team, the case was about lead scoring — pretty marketing-specific.

Second round: the interviewer was the DS Program Director, so it was mostly them walking me through their business and what interns work on there. The technical part was similar to the first round — still around the ML knowledge on my resume, like what model and features I used, all pretty simple. At the end they gave me a case: the probability of conversion for a group of people who had started a free trial. I actually felt like it was basically the same lead-scoring question, so I answered it the same way I did in the first round.

The second-round interviewer asked if I could work in New York for the summer, which felt like a good sign. Two weeks later I got the offer.
