My first contact was a fit conversation with the hiring manager, and it quickly set the tone for the rest of the loop. After that, I had interviews with several people. The discussions focused mostly on my C++ experience and how I had worked with sensors and Nvidia SoCs. Coding questions were mixed in, so the process wasn’t purely based on experience.
What made the experience difficult was how abruptly the technical expectations could appear. At times, I was pushed into very direct fundamentals prompts and debugging or data-structures questions, including linked lists and a system-design style discussion about collaboration. The whiteboard moments were especially jarring because I wasn’t sure what the exercise was meant to evaluate beyond whether I could derive answers on the spot.
By the end, it was clear they were trying to assess both low-level competence and how I framed problems. I left feeling that the process didn’t always map cleanly to what the role would require day to day.
