Four rounds total, all held on the same day, with a lunch break in between:
- Round 1: ETL technical
- Round 2: Data modeling
- Round 3: ETL technical (leaning more toward real-time processing)
- Round 4: Behavioral + ownership-related
HR calls ahead of time to explain what each round covers, so the overall schedule is pretty clear.
The first two rounds lean toward data modeling and traditional batch processing, and the round after that leans toward real-time stream processing. Overall, what they're testing includes:
- Understanding of and sensitivity to business metrics (product sense)
- SQL writing ability and clarity of logic
- Basic Python data processing ability (doesn't involve overly complex frameworks)
- Design thinking for data systems, like how to design tables, how to do updates, how to do aggregation, etc.
The last round is chatting with the interviewer about project experience, how you collaborate, how you make decisions, and other soft-skill questions.
The focus is on:
- Whether you have experience driving a project from 0 to 1
- How you handle conflict, how you work with other teams
- How you make trade-offs when facing conflicting priorities
- Your expectations and plans for future work
