Meta Machine Learning Engineer Interview Experience — GenAI Reorg Chaos Mid-Loop

The whole interview experience was pretty bizarre, moving at the same pace as Zuckerberg's MSL reorg. At the start, it was the GenAI department interviewing me, matched to one specific team. Then they just couldn't get an interview scheduled — it dragged on for over a month.

By the time the interview finally got scheduled, GenAI had already been carved out to Alex Wang, so this was one of the most turbulent processes among big tech interviews out there — the whole panel included. They swapped people on the panel back and forth 3 times.

The interview questions weren't hard, and they were very relevant to the actual job. One round was about pretrain MoE training, one round was about post-train Async RL, and one round was coding — a standard Meta question that people here have already seen plenty of times. My sense was that if you'd actually done this hands-on, you could basically answer all of it.

The other 3 rounds were leadership and culture, pretty casual — 3 Directors/Senior Directors just chatting with me. All standard questions, no surprises. The one that stood out was in one of the leadership rounds, where they asked a fairly detailed question about data compliance.
