MongoDB Software Engineer interview: Karat screen and inconsistent next steps

I began with a recruiter conversation and then went straight to a Karat technical interview. The Karat portion had only a small number of questions, but it was clearly a serious gate. Mine focused on LeetCode-style problems, and I did not pass that stage.

What disappointed me was that the process did not end immediately after Karat. Another technical round was still scheduled, which made the flow feel inconsistent. I did get decent feedback from the Karat interview, and that softened the disappointment somewhat.

It was not a long multi-day onsite marathon, but a lot of weight was placed on the Karat screen. If you stumbled there, it felt like you were fighting uphill regardless of what came later. I ultimately was not offered the job.

Location: Dublin, Dublin. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: No offer.
