Netflix Data Scientist Interview Experience — Eleven Rounds, Two and a Half Months, and a Hiring Manager Swap

I just got an early update from the recruiter. The email said they're still gathering information, but "not a perfect fit, unfortunately."

I interviewed 11 times total, met with 10 different people, and the whole process was absurd — it dragged on for two and a half months.

  • Referral
  • HR screening: Netflix culture, my background, why I'm job hunting
  • First technical round: pure SQL, had to actually run
  • Second technical round: SQL + case study
  • Third round, Hiring Manager: met with hiring managers from two different teams
  • Fourth round, Onsite: 6 sessions total, and this is where things got absurd — they swapped in a third hiring manager

Four of the six onsite sessions were mostly conversational. There were two technical ones — one with a DS, one with an AE. Both cases were about ad frequency caps. I've never gotten angry over a rejection before, but I genuinely felt like both interviewers' attitude and their questions were way too condescending. That's not on me — that's on them.

I've been interviewing for more than half a year now, still no offer, and I've already racked up a pile of onsite rejections. This is the only time I've actually been angry and felt wronged. You really don't need to act that superior — we're all just working stiffs.
