Sharing my Temu interview experience.
First phone screen round (coding):
The problem was printing a 2D matrix in spiral order. Part one: given an m x n matrix, print all the values in a spiral (clockwise, from the outside in). Follow-up: the matrix has blockers, and whenever you hit a blocker you turn clockwise (turn right). What is the output order?
Second round:
Coding problem: given a string, you can flip/replace some of its characters with other characters. What is the maximum length of the longest substring of identical characters you can end up with? At first I tried to use DP and was stuck for a long time. The interviewer hinted that maybe I should use a sliding window, and once he pointed it out I got it and wrote it.
Then he asked a lot about my background, but only dug into the part of my experience related to e-commerce, and didn't ask about what I've been working on recently.
This round was scheduled for 1 hour and ended up running 2 hours. The interviewer was not very nice, kept questioning me and interrupting me while I was talking. When I asked about the future development of the role, he just answered "We don't care about that." Overall the experience was not good.
Result: rejected. I think it was partly because I didn't write the problem especially well, and partly because my background wasn't a great match.
