10/10 phone screen with Visa. At the start, the recruiter first confirmed my visa type, whether I need sponsorship, whether I could do hybrid at least two days a week, and confirmed there's no relocation sponsorship — then the actual questions started.
- Tell me about yourself
- Why do you want to apply for this position
- How do you make the product roadmap — tell me about your experience working on a product roadmap
- Tell me about your experience making trade-offs with stakeholders in project management, the challenges you ran into, and how you addressed them
After that it was mostly follow-up questions building on what I'd already said.
At the end, the recruiter mentioned that Visa's hiring process is set up so that passing the first round doesn't guarantee a second round — hearing that was honestly a bit of a letdown.
For the second round, the hiring manager re-screens the resumes of everyone who passed the first round, and decides whether to interview based on their own preference. So the recruiter's role here is really just recommending candidates, more like a headhunter.
The recruiter told me straight up that I passed, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be a second round, since that's entirely up to the hiring manager. They also told me flat out that after mid-November they wouldn't be looking at resumes anymore because they were going on vacation.
They said if I don't hear back about a second-round interview, I could wait until January, since I'm already on their list — in January they'd look through resumes again to see if there's a suitable department for me.
