Wise. Energy Software Engineer Interview Experience: Rigid technical screens and contradictory role expectations

The vibe and fairness felt off from the start. In a technical round where I filled in parts of a skeleton script, the session felt rushed and rigid, as if I were being judged against a memorized approach instead of how I reasoned. The scope changed at the last minute because they could not define what they wanted. There was also a mismatch in fundamentals: state-machine concepts were not handled with the depth I expected.

Another technical screen was presented as pair programming, but it did not feel collaborative. When I asked for clarification about missing pieces, the interaction became red-flag judgments. Even when I gave a correct direction and tried to work with the prompts, the evaluation seemed to place me below my experience level.

I also had a disorganized, confrontational recruiter call. The interviewer did not introduce themselves properly and jumped into questions without letting me finish. In a separate lead-level process, the role expectations and office-requirement messages turned contradictory and hostile when I asked about sudden changes. I did not get an offer. What stayed with me was how demotivating it felt to be misread through inconsistent or rigid questions and feedback that did not match my effort.

Location: India. Overall feedback: negative. Offer status: no offer.
