After a recruiter chat, I entered technical rounds of about an hour each. The pair-programming panel was mostly friendly and helped when I got stuck. I tried to collaborate and explain my thinking, and one interviewer said at the end that I had done better than most senior IC candidates, but I still did not advance.
System design felt less stable. Two interviewers pulled in different directions: one pushed me onward before I felt ready, while another focused on core requirements as the first wanted a needlessly complex approach. In the product interview, they asked about my previous job but did not seem to understand it, then asked how I would measure success for their team.
The recruiter gave detailed feedback without explaining why I failed or the bar I missed. I left feeling I had made a solid effort, especially on collaboration, but could not tell what would have changed the result.
