Zoox Data Scientist Interview Experience — A Random Grab-Bag of Math and Estimation Questions
Company: Zoox
Role: Data Scientist
Round: Onsite
Seniority: General
Overall it wasn't too hard, and the interviewer was very friendly. The interviewer had a slide deck, and the questions were picked from it at random.
- A 15x20 foot floor — if you tile it with tiles that are 1 square yard each, how many tiles do you need?
- An account has $1,000 in it, doubling every year. How much money is there after 20 years?
- Sitting by a window looking at the moon, estimate your distance to the moon.
- You throw the rocks that were in a boat into a lake. Does the lake's water level rise or fall?
- You need to transfer 2TB of data to someone in San Francisco. What's the fastest way to do it?
- Two boxes, each containing the numbers 1, 2, 3. You draw one number from each box. What's the probability that the product of the two numbers is even?
- A 2TB hard drive — how many uncompressed 1080p movies can it hold?
- There was also one about finding the area of a square, roughly three squares nested inside each other, where you're given the area of the innermost square.
