Hat Assignments in an Early-Career Onsite

The author reports two coding interviews during a Roblox early-career virtual onsite. One problem asked for the number of valid hat assignments and the highest score obtainable when hats carry point values. The author considered dynamic programming or backtracking, noting that the smaller input size might permit the latter. The second problem was identified only as a Candy Crush exercise, without…

A Shared To-Do List Design and a Kafka Mistake

The system design question was the shared to-do list problem from the question bank. Unfortunately, I had not had time to prepare for it. This was also my first system design interview, so I did not perform very well. I made one critical mistake by adding a Kafka queue. That made the system asynchronous and would affect the speed of the synchronous flow. The interviewer still interacted with me t…

2027 Intern/New Grad OA Games and Coding

My Roblox OA from a month ago. Round 1: Cognitive Games, three mini-games Robots: Assemble tools to cross different terrain. Try different assemblies to reach the finish. Factory: Optimize the production-line network, identify bottleneck stations, and maximize cash flow on the high-profit lines. Mars: Outpost: Modular programming. Watch out: only functions packaged during the testing phase can be…

Puzzle-Game Assessment, Then a Match-3 and Autocomplete Phone Screen

Sharing my Roblox interview experience, hoping it helps everyone. I'm still in the middle of interviewing right now. I applied to Roblox with three years of full-time experience, mass-applying as an experienced hire. I don't know why, but they first gave me an online assessment, which is mostly playing their little puzzle games plus answering some behavioral questions. I have to complain about th…

A Robot Navigating a Laser-Covered Grid

The interview experience was good overall, and the interviewer was very friendly. This time I got a classic grid graph search/simulation question. The problem statement was quite long and needed careful reading. The original question follows: Problem description: Imagine a board of size numRows × numColumns with some lasers on it. These lasers are located in the two-dimensional array laserCoordin…

Roblox Software Engineer interview: challenging but relaxed Superday

After applying online, I took an online assessment built around game-style problem solving. The Superday itself was tough, though most interviewers were laid back and friendly. The technical side leaned heavily on numerous LeetCode-style questions in the medium-to-hard range. The behavioral questions were not just warmups. They were difficult enough that I had to be specific about how I would han…

One Technical Screen, a Rare Trie/Heap Question, No Offer

A bit unlucky — I ran into an interviewer for this round. At first I was pretty happy, thinking we might have something in common, but then I got the lowest-frequency, hardest question in the database, and I didn't finish it. I ended up failing. I'm not sure whether it was because of the coding, or my resume, or maybe just because I didn't finish the coding — either way, my feedback didn't stack…

Digit-Grid Phone Screen, Then Resource Loader and Pub/Sub System Design Onsite

Engine-related role — all the questions were things I'd never seen anywhere on this forum before. Phone Screen: Phase 1 was an m*n grid where each cell holds a digit from 0-9. I had to collect every horizontal or vertical run of 3 or more matching digits and record each one in a results array, in the format [position, length], with the results ordered top-to-bottom and left-to-right. Phase 2 buil…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
