Evaluation of a Blob Store's Design

Evaluate each requirement through its failure cases. Replication, caching, and partitioning are mechanisms; their presence alone does not prove the promised behavior.

Availability

The example maintains four copies per chunk: a primary plus three additional replicas. Their placement spans local, same-region, and remote failure domains. Healthy copies can serve reads if metadata and authorization remain available. Monitor the number of usable copies and trigger repair before another failure exhausts the remaining redundancy.

For writes, the acknowledgment policy waits for the required local durable copies. Availability then depends on how many required participants remain reachable. Protect the manager with a replicated operation log as well as checkpoints; a snapshot alone loses subsequent updates. A replacement must recover committed metadata and fence the former owner before accepting conflicting mutations.
