Requirements of Instagram’s Design

Requirements

We will focus on core features to simplify the design. The system requirements are:

Functional requirements

• Post photos and videos: The users can post photos and videos on Instagram.

• Follow and unfollow users: The users can follow and unfollow other users on Instagram.

• Like or remove a like: Users can set or clear their like state on an eligible post. The later “dislike” API name means undoing a like in this exercise.

• Search photos and videos: The users can search photos and videos based on captions and location.

• Generate a feed: Start with reverse-chronological eligible posts from followed accounts. Suggested and promoted content are optional additional sources with explicit ranking and eligibility rules; including them means the whole page may no longer be strictly chronological.

Non-functional requirements
