Airtable Software Engineer interview: six-hour coding exercise and $200 certificate

I applied online and heard back quickly about a recruiter call, but the tone felt scripted and quota driven. It seemed like the person on the other end wasn't closely involved with the team or the role. The next step was a six-hour coding exercise before I had spoken with anyone from the actual team.

I was told I'd receive a $200 Amazon gift certificate for completing it, but the exercise didn't come with enough context to feel like a thoughtful hiring step. I spent about an hour and a half on the assignment and submitted it. I did receive the automated $200 certificate.

After that, I didn't hear anything back, and I felt I'd made the right call by moving on mentally. The process was lengthy, but what stayed with me more was the sense that it was built around filtering people through a large task instead of evaluating fit with a team that could explain what it needed.

Location: San Francisco, CA. Overall feedback: Negative. Offer status: No offer.
