Aurora Innovation Cloud Engineer interview, C++ and system design

After connecting through the recruiter, I moved through a structured process: a recruiter call followed by technical discussions, system design, and coding. The recruiter and interviewers kept the tone comfortable, and I felt they were genuinely interested in how I’d approach realistic work scenarios instead of searching for one exact answer.

The onsite lasted a few hours and included several technical and experience-based discussions. I had a domain experience conversation, two separate C++ coding rounds, and behavioral time with the hiring manager. There was also a domain-specific system design discussion focused on practical tradeoffs rather than abstract diagrams. It was challenging in a fair way, and the questions matched what the role would require.

Once the process began, it moved with some momentum and took about a month, or around four weeks from my initial call through the final touchpoints. I didn’t end up with an offer, but I left feeling that the bar was high and the process was well-run and thoughtful, especially compared with interview processes that feel vague.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: No offer.
