DoorDash Software Engineer Interview Experience — Food Review System Design That Was All DB Schema, Then a Debug Round, Rejected

I was rejected a few weeks ago, so I'm posting this now. The phone screen was nothing special, the classic payment question, and the interviewer was very helpful.

Onsite:

  1. Hiring manager round. Nothing much, it's basically just BQ, and they all came out about the same.
  2. System design, the classic food review. The interviewer barely discussed anything with me the whole time. Basically I was the one driving, and when I asked about scalability they just said "whatever you say." I thought, does someone like this really get to interview for SD? I just sat there and listened to them finish, and that was it. The one thing that was different is that they asked a lot about how to design the DB schema. I had always heard the DoorDash bar is very high, but I felt the interviewer's level was very low. They didn't ask a single real SD question. I suspect they came from a SQL background.
  3. AI coding, a classic question from the interview reports.
  4. Debug. I don't know if anyone has reported this one, I only skimmed the forum quickly. It's finding bugs, including logic bugs. They said my code wasn't great too, but it was really just corner cases and some of the map checks.
