I started with an online application and then went through a recruiter step before meeting anyone live. After that, I completed a take-home product assignment. I had to choose a feature to add or improve in Duolingo and turn it into a short slide deck covering the problem, solution, success metrics, and MVP. It took a while, but the instructions were clear enough that I understood what they wanted.
Once I finished the take-home, the interviews focused on product and how I reasoned with data. The rounds mixed product sense, funnel and analytics thinking, design, and strategy questions. My process usually had two interviews in the first phase and back-to-back sessions in the next phase, with each conversation lasting about forty-five minutes. Some sessions involved presenting and wireframing product ideas on paper while talking through my assumptions.
The process was designed to test whether I could connect product thinking to measurement and communicate it clearly. I made it through all the steps and still ended up without an offer. I was frustrated by how much work the earlier stages required compared with the feedback I received, although I respected that the interviews consistently tested core PM skills.
