Google Data Scientist Interview Experience — Second-Round Onsite, One Interviewer Cancels via Late-Night Email

About a month or two ago I did my first round, which had two sessions, but I honestly don't remember what was covered. I guess I didn't do well, because there was no follow-up.

Last week I suddenly heard that I'd be moving on to a second round. The second round was supposed to have three sessions, but the interviewer for one of them wasn't available and canceled on me by email in the middle of the night, so I actually only did two sessions.

The first session was Measurement and Modeling Concepts. They asked about:

  • What would you do if Google Meet's adoption rate dropped?
  • What's your favorite model, and can you explain how it works?
  • What problems have you run into while training a model?

The second session was Googleyness and Leadership, and the questions were pretty generic:

  • Have you ever made a bad decision?
  • If you could do it over, what would you do differently?

The weird part was that after the recruiter did the first call with me, they basically went cold on me. I asked three times what each session would cover before they finally answered. I asked which team I was interviewing for and they never answered that at all.

Hope everyone here finds the job they're looking for.

Update: the recruiter scheduled a call for tomorrow and said there'd be news then. Wishing myself luck.
