A recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn and arranged a short technical discussion with two people. One interviewer gave a brief company introduction, then the conversation moved straight to technical questions with little discussion of my background. The other asked extensively about Java, thread safety, reactive paradigms, data structures, and cloud topics.
The format threw me off. The interviewers felt cold and detached, and the questions seemed academic and low-level, focused on how things work internally instead of how to use them in real projects. I got stuck on depth I had not prepared for, particularly internal workings and framework assumptions. It never felt closely tied to day-to-day work.
I was rejected. The biggest disappointment was not the difficulty itself, but how narrowly the discussion focused in a way that felt misaligned with practical engineering.
