Northrop Grumman Software Engineer, panel with C++ and fundamentals questions

After the initial steps, I had a panel-style technical conversation with several senior engineers. It covered behavioral questions and technical fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms and databases. There was also a clear C++ focus. We discussed my past experience in the context of how I approach problem-solving, then moved into C++ fundamentals and basic scenario-based questions.

The questions felt structured rather than random. Most seemed to come from a question bank, which gave the conversation some consistency while still allowing it to feel conversational. One interviewer group focused on STAR-style answers, so I spent much of the time describing specific situations involving teamwork, challenges, and how I handled difficult moments, while also answering the technical questions clearly.

Overall, it felt like a fair test of whether I could connect my experience to the role while showing basic technical competence. The difficulty was average rather than brutal. I wasn’t blindsided, but it still took real focus to keep the behavioral and technical parts coherent at the same time.

Location: Rolling Meadows, IL. Overall feedback: Neutral. Offer status: No offer.
