Nutanix Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience — Hit Counter Follow-Ups

My interview lasted an hour: about forty minutes for coding and twenty for my resume. The coding problem was a hit counter. I had not seen it before and spent quite a while working through it.

The interviewer asked how to handle many hits at the same timestamp, and I discussed grouping them with a count. The next follow-up asked for better time and space complexity; I described using two fixed-length arrays. The final follow-up concerned thread safety and concurrent performance. That part required an explanation rather than code, before we moved to resume questions.
