OpenAI Senior+ Software Engineer Interview Experience — Recruiter Screen With Zero Technical Questions

Got pulled in by a recruiter on LinkedIn, scheduled a 30-minute recruiter call. Writing this down right after while it's still fresh.

Bottom line: it was pretty light, zero technical questions. Basically I gave my self-intro, and then she asked one question per experience on my resume without digging deep — felt like she was just confirming what's on the resume is real. Then she asked why I want to join OpenAI, whether I can relocate, that kind of thing.

The team is on the infra side. She mentioned she also has another req in a different direction, just in passing, so I think it's worth asking if there are other openings.

Level got aligned on the spot — senior+ tier.

I directly asked which level would you calibrate this at, and she told me. My advice: ask this early, don't sit on it until the end.

Process is: recruiter call, then straight into a one-day coding + system design round. No mention of a work trial (I've seen people online say some OpenAI teams have a paid 48h take-home, but my team didn't mention one).

The timeline turned out to be surprisingly flexible to push. I told her I had other processes running and wanted a focused loop instead of juggling everything at once — she had zero pushback, just said fine and pushed it back. So if you're worried that asking for a delay will hurt you, you can relax.

Will come back and update after the coding and SD rounds.
