First, let me vent about the interview experience here — it was very unprofessional. From start to finish I never received a single HR email; it was always unscheduled phone calls, and I never got any prep doc either. Contact was basically one-way. After the HR call in January, almost a month went by with no movement, and I figured it was dead. Then suddenly they reached out to schedule the hiring manager interview. After that interview, another month went by with no movement, then suddenly they called wanting to schedule a virtual onsite (VO) — and then realized I hadn't done a phone screen, so they cancelled the VO and added a phone screen round instead. Overall, HR was very unreliable and the process was very non-standard. I wouldn't recommend this as a target company.
By the way, I got the referral from someone here on the forum — thanks to the kind soul.
The phone screen was a binary search question, not hard.
The in-person onsite had three rounds, 11:30am to 2pm, with no lunch provided and no time given to eat.
Round 1: 🌂8️⃣🔔, written on the whiteboard. After I finished, they also asked some system design follow-ups — how to scale it, how to guarantee strong consistency.
Round 2: System design — 1k admin users, 1k devices, and every day the admin users need to update the devices' config. Design this system.
Round 3: 👂👂[wife], with a follow-up added in parentheses, again written on the whiteboard.
This interview was really super easy mode. Of course, their pay is also really low.
