Rippling Software Engineer Interview Experience — Scheduled Changes and Product Analytics

The first round required AI-assisted frontend and backend changes to an employee-management application. I needed to schedule future updates, show them in history, reuse the existing history table, and respect employment dates. Same-day updates had to combine field by field. Follow-ups covered backdating, reliable activation, concurrency, idempotency, and error handling. I found the round manageable and the interviewer friendly.

For the project discussion, I prepared slides but felt the interviewer was disengaged. My attempts to encourage questions did not help. The project discussion lasted a little over thirty minutes, followed by behavioral questions; the hour-long session ended before fifty minutes.

The design round concerned product analytics at about a billion events daily. It covered ingestion, enrichment, minute-level dashboards, and a warehouse for longer-range analysis. Queries over the past week needed to finish within 500 milliseconds 99% of the time. Follow-ups addressed out-of-order events, deduplication, and latency. I had been unemployed for a year when I shared this account.
