Stripe Data Scientist Interview Experience — SQL ETL Case Study Under Time Pressure

The team was already pretty familiar with my background, so the interview wasn't set up to be too difficult.

Tech part:
They gave me a case and had me build an ETL process based on it. (If the interviewer asks whether it would still run under different scenarios, you'd better think it over again — there's a good chance you missed something.)
It was a Zoom video interview, and I wrote SQL code on the whiteboard.

Later on, time got a little tight, so the interviewer said we'd start focusing on logic instead — the code didn't need to be complete, just write out the methodology for each question. Since this is a data analytics role, it was mostly SQL-based, but I had to answer a lot of questions in a short amount of time.

Behavioral part:

  1. Describe a project where you worked with the engineering team and ran into a challenge — how did you resolve it?
  2. If there's disagreement within the team, how do you resolve it? (Give an example where you convinced someone else, or were convinced yourself.)
  3. Describe the project you're most proud of, and why.
  4. If you're given a lot of work at once with a hard deadline approaching, what do you do?
