Last time I mentioned that after a 2.5-hour second round I felt like I'd failed, but I actually hadn't. The second-round interviewer (the dept lead) decided to skip the third-round technical round entirely, so my third round ended up being the final round too — just a chat with HR. A bit about my background, some basic behavioral questions, and then talking about what it's like working there and salary and stuff like that.
Interview begins
This time the interviewer opened by introducing themselves as HR, and said this round was just to get a basic sense of things. Then they asked me to introduce myself. Since I'd already been through two rounds, I figured they'd want to hear about everything starting from undergrad. So I went through my whole background from undergrad to my current job, including what I studied and what I do at work.
Next they asked why I wanted to come here, why I wanted to switch jobs, and whether there was any blocker that would keep me from joining Temu. This is where I brought up the salary issue. The recruiter had originally told me the range was 200-300K, and at the time said 300K was the absolute ceiling — meaning anything above 300K wasn't negotiable. So I brought up salary with HR again this time, and they said above 300K could actually be discussed, but they wanted to hear my expected salary first. I just told them my current salary directly and let them figure it out themselves. At some point they also mentioned the salaries of people who'd already been hired, though I don't know if it's true — they said an Amazon L6 coming into their company only gets about 300K.
After that it was just some loose chit-chat — I asked about their work setup, like who you report to, meetings with the China team, that kind of thing. It wrapped up after about 45 minutes.
Overall this interview was a pretty relaxed HR chat. The interviewer was pretty much a textbook HR person — to put it nicely, they spoke very decently and politely and kept finding chances to compliment you. Now I just have to wait and see how much they offer.
