Getting through all 4 rounds of the intern interview process was genuinely not easy. After I finished, I felt like my English and my structured way of speaking had leveled up dramatically.
I got the interview invite from HR on LinkedIn. After we scheduled a call, they walked me through the role details and the interview process.
Round 1: Full self-introduction in English. For the questions after that, some interviewers would switch over to Chinese on their own, but it really depends on the interviewer. Then they started digging deep into my personal background — my advice here is to know your own resume inside and out, otherwise the chain of follow-up questions will make you want to find a hole in the ground to crawl into. There were also some role-related questions, fairly specialized, but not too difficult.
Round 2: Besides the usual behavioral questions — things like "What experience do you have, and what will this offer to the role" and the classic "why us, why you" — you can prepare answers for these ahead of time. They also asked quite a few questions testing teamwork and leadership ability. My suggestion is to prepare for these in advance and try to answer as completely and clearly as possible.
Round 3: This one was the manager interviewing directly. The questions were all pretty tough. My suggestion is to research the recent hot topics and technology trends relevant to the role you're interviewing for beforehand, and think about how they relate to TikTok's business.
Round 4: HR round. Self-introduction plus personality/behavioral questions (you can prepare using the classic P&G eight-question framework). Then they went over salary, benefits, and so on. I also used the chance to ask a few questions of my own, and that's how it wrapped up.
