I had my onsite (VO) on Monday and Tuesday. Three days later, today, the recruiter just emailed saying they decided to move forward with other candidates who are the best fit for the role. They asked if I wanted to talk through feedback.
Overall I felt the interviewers were pretty good — they were responsive. At the start the recruiter gives you a Google doc with a pretty detailed writeup describing roughly what each round covers. (If anyone needs it, just ask.)
One round was practical coding, 90 minutes, implement uniq — this one has come up before.
One round was a principles interview. It started with what new things I'd learned in the past six months, then moved into some scenario-based questions for me to answer. Personally I actually liked this kind of scenario question, because with a scenario I always feel like I have some angle to answer from.
One round was an AI technical deep dive. Mainly we talked through an AI chat bot they'd built, and I answered the interviewer's questions — like how I'd improve it, and how I'd debug it if something went wrong.
One round was a leadership interview. This one asked about real project experience, and the interviewer stressed not to get into technical details unless they were relevant. It felt like discussing my experience from a high level — things like impact on the team, how to deal with senior leadership.
My own guess is that I probably didn't answer one or two questions well in the leadership round. For example, I didn't say much about my impact on the team — in reality I've had a lot of positive impact on the team, but in the moment I couldn't think of the best example to use.
This is a rejection report, and honestly I don't know where I went wrong, so I won't share my full answer approach here, to avoid misleading anyone.
