Once the automated system started the process, things moved quickly. I received the same technical assignment I had completed during an earlier cycle, so I completed it carefully again and submitted it. This time I was told explicitly that my code was excellent. The recruiter then called to arrange an onsite interview.
The day before the onsite, I emailed because I was missing some logistics. Rather than reply by email, the recruiter called and asked whether I had completed the assignment before. I answered honestly, and the recruiter canceled the interview immediately.
It felt surreal. The system's decision to resend an assignment seemed to become a reason to penalize me, even though I had done exactly what was requested and had received positive feedback on the work. I did not move forward, and I was frustrated by what felt like punishment for a failure to track an applicant's history.
