An Unclear Car-Location API and Binary-Search Hints

This might have been a new question, though I'd only read about ten interview reports. I'd definitely never seen this one. I don't know the result yet, but I didn't finish, so I'm sure this is a rejection report. The main issue was some domain knowledge. I couldn't quickly step back from it, and wasted a lot of time. The interview guidance was also a bit off. I said, "Couldn't this use recursion?…

Aggressive Interruptions on a Coding Phone Screen

HR call: Two different HR people reached out to me. It was basically background chat. The first HR felt like they came out of a frat, very flippant, and asked me this kind of dumb question about why I'd choose to accept a return offer and go back to a certain company as a full-time employee. The second one asked what I wanted out of my next job, and then asked to schedule the interview right ther…

Applied Intuition Software Engineer Interview Experience: group discussion, system design, and AI coding

After a recruiter call, I had a 45-minute online coding interview. It was a direct technical checkpoint, and after I cleared it, I was invited to the Sunnyvale office for an onsite loop. The onsite included a group discussion, a system-design conversation, an AI coding segment, and a final discussion. It felt structured and professional. They seemed to be looking at how I reasoned, how I communic…

A Timeout-Detection Question, Not the Usual Shortest-Path Problem

Looking at the recent interview reports on 1point3acres, they're mostly the shortest-path problem — I specifically prepared for that for a long time, but it turned out not to be that. It was an uncommon, old question. There were several event objects (sim id, type, timestamp) representing various events for a simulation's state. Type is one of start, ping, end. start means the sim starts, ping me…

A 45-Minute Screen and a Transactional Key-Value Store Question

HR reached out to me on LinkedIn, and we scheduled the first phone call. HR gave a quick overview of the company and emphasized how intense the work culture is there. HR made it clear that the next round would normally be a one-hour interview, but explained that because the company valued efficiency and speed, they were only giving me 45 minutes. Then we scheduled the first technical phone screen…

Recursion Blocked in Favor of a Stack

The question was a new one I hadn't seen before — roughly, implement an in-memory key-value store that supports transactions. Your system needs to process a series of commands that assign values to variables, print variable values, and manage transactional blocks. The tricky part is that you can assign to a variable that was already assigned before entering the transaction. My first instinct was…

an LRU-Based Event Scheduler Screen

HR reached out to me on LinkedIn, and we scheduled a round right away. Not a tag question. Say you have a job scheduler that processes events. The input is a timeout value and a stream of events, and you need to figure out which events time out. Events come in three modes: start, end, and ping. A ping updates an event's status, and if the time between an event's last update and the current time e…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Share your own

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
