Zoox Software Engineer interview: a written assignment and unclear evaluation

The interview loop felt long and demanding. After a recruiter contacted me, I spoke with several hiring managers and moved into more technical work. The biggest commitment was an extensive assignment with a detailed written report and, if selected, a presentation to a panel. I felt the workload was disproportionate, especially when I couldn't see clearly how the work would be assessed. After fini…

Zoox Robotics Engineer interview: validation-testing problem solving

About a week after a recruiter conversation, I had a virtual interview with the hiring manager. I first walked through my background, then we discussed how I handle problems during validation testing: what I do when behavior is unexpected, how I debug, and how I decide which check to run next. It was a focused conversation rather than a puzzle marathon. The questions stayed close to my day-to-day…

A Random Grab-Bag of Math and Estimation Questions

Overall it wasn't too hard, and the interviewer was very friendly. The interviewer had a slide deck, and the questions were picked from it at random. A 15x20 foot floor — if you tile it with tiles that are 1 square yard each, how many tiles do you need? An account has $1,000 in it, doubling every year. How much money is there after 20 years? Sitting by a window looking at the moon, estimate your…

What are interview experiences?

An interview experience is a candidate's own account of a hiring loop — not a question bank entry. It tells you the shape of the process: how many rounds there were, what each round actually tested, how long the gaps between them ran, and what the recruiter said at the end. That context is the part a question list cannot give you.

How to read them

Weight recent write-ups more heavily — interview loops change, often within a year. Read several for the same company and role rather than one: a single account tells you what one interviewer asked, while five tell you what the bar is. Note the outcome badge too, since a rejection write-up usually explains the gap far more precisely than an offer one.

Every published experience earns 50 XP, and each of the first 3 likes it receives in a day earns you 10 XP more. Likes must come from established accounts; like-for-like swaps and likes from your own second account are not paid. Write it while the details are fresh — the round order, the exact prompts, and how much time you were given are what the next reader needs.
