Wipro Software Engineer interview: resume-based technical rounds
After a recruiter call, I had two technical rounds and one HR round. Technical questions stayed close to my resume, so they felt grounded in my experience. One section began with multiple-choice questions and then a coding test. The MCQs were basic concept checks. The coding portion had multiple moderately difficult problems, moving from theory to implementation in one sitting. The HR discussion…

The process felt unusually easy. Most of the attention was on how I communicated: my accent, vocabulary, and whether I could express myself clearly. It was not a heavy technical grilling. The questions were simple and personal. I was asked to talk about myself, my hobbies, and what I had done the previous weekend. Because the conversation stayed light, I never felt as though I was being tested on…

Master Your Resume Details
Wipro's technical panel will thoroughly review your resume. Be ready to explain the architecture, tech stack, database schema, and your specific contribution to every academic or professional project you have listed.
Focus on the "Why" Behind Your Code
When asked to write a program, do not just write the syntax. Explain your thought process aloud, discuss why you chose a specific data structure (e.g., using a HashSet for $O(1)$ lookups), and proactively mention the time and space complexity.
Highlight Your Adaptability
During behavioral and HR rounds, emphasize your willingness to learn new technologies, work in rotational shifts, and relocate if necessary. Wipro highly values versatile engineers who can easily transition between different client projects.

Exports duplicate a row range about once a week
Roughly once a week an export writes a file containing a duplicated range of rows. The affected job_run rows show attempt = 1, status = succeeded, one started_at, and a lease_owner naming a different host from the one whose logs show the job starting. Leases last 30 seconds and are heartbeated every 10 from inside the handler; lease_expires_at is computed on the worker and compared against the database's now(). Find the mechanism, and give a fix that holds even if you cannot fix the clocks.
Approach
- Start from the fact that eliminates the obvious answer. attempt = 1 means no retry was recorded, so this is not a re-run after failure; two workers ran the same row concurrently and the takeover path never touched the counter. lease_owner naming a host other than the one that started the job is the same statement from the other side.
- Enumerate the mechanisms that cause a premature takeover, then find the signal that separates them. Either the lease genuinely expired because the heartbeat did not fire, which is what happens when the heartbeat runs on the handler's own thread and the handler makes a long blocking call, or it only appeared expired because two clocks disagree, since lease_expires_at is written from the worker's clock and evaluated against the database's. The discriminator is the distribution: incidents clustered on the longest exports indict the heartbeat, incidents clustered on one host indict skew. Measure both, and measure each host's offset against the database directly.
- Read the reclaim query precisely. In PostgreSQL now() is transaction start time, not statement time, so a reclaimer holding a long transaction compares against an older timestamp than expected; clock_timestamp() is the statement-time function. This is worth ruling in or out before you redesign anything, because it changes which rows look expired.
- Remove the second clock rather than trying to synchronise it. Issue and extend the lease in the database, with lease_expires_at = now() + interval '30 seconds' in both the claim and the heartbeat, so exactly one clock is ever compared and worker skew stops mattering to this predicate.
Follow-up
- The displaced worker has already streamed half the file to object storage. What makes that side effect safe to repeat?
- You now count takeovers. What alert fires on that counter, and at what threshold?

How difficult is the Wipro Software Engineer interview?
The difficulty is generally moderate for freshers, focusing heavily on core computer science fundamentals, OOPs, basic coding, and communication. For experienced candidates (lateral hires), the difficulty increases to average or difficult, with a strong emphasis on system design, microservices, database optimization, and framework-specific advanced concepts.
Wipro Software Engineer candidate reports ↗What is the AI Berribot / SVAR round?
This is an automated communication assessment used to evaluate your spoken English proficiency. The tool tests your pronunciation, reading fluency, active listening, and sentence structure by asking you to read sentences aloud, repeat spoken phrases, or answer brief situational questions.
Wipro Software Engineer candidate reports ↗Does Wipro have a service agreement or bond policy?
Yes, for entry-level engineering roles (such as Project Engineers hired through campus drives), Wipro often requires a service agreement (typically 12 months) along with a training bond. This policy is standard across major IT consulting firms in India and is discussed transparently during the final HR interview.
Wipro Software Engineer candidate reports ↗How long does the entire hiring process take?
The timeline varies. While virtual lateral interviews can conclude within two weeks, on-campus drives or large walk-in events can take anywhere from one month to several months from the initial assessment to the receipt of the official offer letter and onboarding date.
Wipro Software Engineer candidate reports ↗Are software engineers at Wipro expected to work in rotational shifts?
Yes, depending on the client project and geographic location of the team you are assigned to, you may be required to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts. Flexibility regarding working hours and location is a key cultural fitment criteria evaluated during the HR round.
Wipro Software Engineer candidate reports ↗What topics does Wipro test in interviews?
Wipro interviews most often cover SQL, Java, Spring Boot, Problem Solving, and Python. The exact emphasis depends on the specific role you apply for.
