Harvey Interview Questions
Harvey's loop, across 41 reported questions, keeps circling retrieval. 19 of them are coding, and the recurring shape is text under structure: matching and tagging strings that arrive from several sources at once, merging exact-word highlights and then ranking the citations they belong to, and building a spreadsheet formula engine that has to detect cycles before it evaluates anything. The 8 system design questions and the 3 on ML system design stay in the same territory, including a RAG question-answering agent over a law firm's legal memos, and a smaller task that asks you to implement retrieval plus the evaluation harness that tells you whether your change actually helped. Behavioural time is a project deep dive tied to the company's core values rather than a separate storytelling round. Reports come from Software Engineer and Backend Engineer interviews, with one from a Machine Learning Engineer. No take-home appears anywhere in the sample: 19 questions were asked onsite and 16 in a technical screen. 27 are rated medium against 8 hard, 18 open a console, and about half the page, 51%, is free.
