Headway Interview Questions

Engineering fundamentals, rather than algorithms, is the largest category on Headway's page, and 6 of the 8 questions were asked in a technical screen. Two of them hand you code that already exists and ask you to work inside it: debugging why an insurance eligibility status has gone stale, and extending a set of classes that compute obstacle-run statistics. That is much closer to a normal pull request than to a whiteboard. Rate limiting comes up twice, at the policy level rather than the algorithm level. One question wants per-endpoint limits that coexist with a global limit; the other wants middleware running two fixed windows at once, where the awkward case is a request that clears one window and fails the other. There is also a journey counter with speeder detection to implement, and a capacity question about absorbing traffic spikes and estimating how many servers sit behind them. Seven of the eight are rated medium. Only one question is runnable in a console; the rest are prose problems, six of them with a written solution, and half the page is readable without premium.
