My first step with Ally Financial was a self-recorded HireVue-style video interview. I recorded an introduction and answered a handful of behavioral prompts. The format was lightweight and straightforward, with no technical questions. It still created pressure because I had limited attempts for each answer and had to redo recordings when something came out awkward.
The prompts were mostly "tell me about yourself" and workplace situations: how I would react in certain environments and how my past experience fit the role. I expected something more analytical, but the questions stayed surface-level and conversational. They seemed to test communication and fit more than financial depth. It took around 15 to 20 minutes to finish the recorded portion, and I submitted it soon after.
The process then moved slowly and ended quietly. I never reached later rounds and did not get clear follow-up or a definitive decision, even after reaching out. The interview was easy enough that I left confident, but the lack of closure made the experience feel incomplete.
