Amazon Development Center U.S. Software Engineer Java Spring Boot debugging loop

Amazon Development Center U.S.·Software Engineer·Reported Jun 2026

After a recruiter call, I had a technical phone screen of about an hour with practical engineering questions. Once I cleared it, I entered the loop.

The loop combined coding, systems thinking, and Amazon Leadership Principles. I solved LeetCode-style problems, discussed system design, and completed a STAR-format behavioral round. In one round, I used an AI-enabled setup to debug code in a Java/Spring Boot repository across multiple test cases. That threw me off because it felt like applied troubleshooting rather than a usual interview problem.

Bar-raiser-style follow-ups focused on ownership, decision making, my specific contribution, and what I would do differently. The process was intense and long enough that I had to rely on careful attention rather than momentum. I did not receive an offer, but the format was consistent: explain yourself under pressure and be ready for technical execution and leadership-story depth.

Location: Virginia, NE. Overall feedback: Positive. Offer status: no offer.
