Amazon Services Software Engineer Interview Experience: Leadership Principles and tradeoffs under uncertainty

After a recruiter conversation, I moved into the main loop with several interviewers. The behavioral portion was closely tied to Amazon's Leadership Principles, and each interviewer focused on a different part of my background. Technical discussions mixed LeetCode-style coding with open-ended questions about how I made decisions when requirements or information were incomplete.

The loop included writing code from scratch with hints and more design-oriented conversations. In one interview, I walked through project experience and design decisions, including stakeholder management and tradeoffs. Another covered classic data-structure coding. Throughout the loop, how I approached the work mattered as much as the final solution. I was repeatedly asked to justify my choices and connect them to long-term thinking and root-cause analysis.

The process was well structured across interviewers even as the emphasis changed. It was mentally exhausting, but it made the evaluation of execution and judgment under uncertainty clear.

Location: Dublin, Dublin. Overall feedback: positive. Offer status: no offer.
