It was a team focused more on internal work. The first round was a technical interview with the hiring manager, and we started solving problems with almost no self-introduction. I have to say Apple's questions were very detailed. It really felt like they were testing technical ability through the work you normally do. I needed to think aloud; they cared a lot about how I understood the data and exactly why I was doing something. The HM was very technical too, so we went straight into CoderPad. The data was simulated data related to the team's work. Both SQL and Python were tested. I don't use Python much day to day, so I won't go into that part.
I'll just describe the SQL. There were roughly two tables, employee and audit_events. First they tested how I normally explore tables. I was allowed to use AI to look up functions and debug. The employee data contained org, country, employeeid, and name; the audit data contained session_id, user_id, event_timestamp, and session_name. For the exploration, I briefly looked at duplicates, nulls, the timestamp range, employees' organizations and countries, what sessions there were, and so on. The second question was average session duration by organization, filtered to session counts >= 400. The third asked for a month-by-month rate.
