ASML Software Engineer interview: HireVue assessment and one-hour backend and Java discussion

My first step was a video assessment, followed by a more direct interview with team members. The video round felt like a standard HireVue-style screening. I had to record responses and keep my answers focused. After that, I had a one-hour conversation with two people, focused on backend work and Java.

What I remember most about the hour was that it centered on what I could talk through, especially how I approached backend problems, rather than on abstract puzzles. The discussion stayed tied to my experience and practical topics, and everyone remained polite throughout.

The follow-up was fairly quick. I received an offer about a week later, which made the process feel more positive than I expected. My reflection was that the format was meant to see whether my day-to-day engineering instincts matched what the team needed, rather than to trick me.

Location: Eindhoven. Overall feedback: Neutral. Offer status: Got offer.
