Atlys Software Engineer Interview Experience — AI Coding Round Designing a Splitwise-Style Settlement App

AI Coding Round

Design a Splitwise-like expense tracking and debt settlement app, and implement a smart settlement feature.

In the first part of the interview we did LLD and HLD design, and I needed to make clear the following:

1. Functional and non-functional requirements
2. API design
3. Core entity design

In the later part of the interview, I was asked to write code without using AI, implementing two core methods:

1. settle() - calculate the number of transactions needed to settle everyone's balances.
2. settle_optimally() - minimize the number of transactions needed to settle all balances.
